My Blog is No longer G-rated

After that scintillating hook of a title, let's dive right in.

Hot off the press, fresh in from our spies at E-mart, our local superstore type shop......My new favorite garbled-english-Korean-t-shirt, supplanting "rabbits don't eat sausages" and "we taste like soap scum". The new champion is "let's pretend we're rabbits and do it all day" Wow. What else can one say to that. Just wow.  I think that even surpasses the now-defunct local bar whose name "D.R.O.P." stands for Dream Romance Orgasm People. And yes, the acronym is spelled out in full and in large print  as you walk in. And yes it was just your normal bar. Albeit with a charming moniker. What, pray tell, is a orgasm person?

Continuing on the non g-rated theme, I will tell you a little bit more about Korean culture.
A while back I had my first JimJil Bang experience. Which for the uninitiated (i.e. everyone), is a public sort of bathhouse/spa type dealeo. My first experience was rather traumatizing in fact, so it's worth a telling. The deal is you pay like $5 and get access to this massive building. Floor #1 is the naked floor. Men and women separated of course lest the reader be confused.  You can take a shower, watch TV, or partake in the communal baths. They are of varying temperatures and depending on where you are, they may have fancy "jade pools" or the like.  All naked of course. Bear this in mind. So anyway, I went with my girlfriend for the experience of the thing. We had to part early on because of the whole naked thing, and I was greeted by these puzzling small lockers that I couldn't fit my clothes into. After trying to stuff a shirt inside, I spied some large lockers in the room (along with some old naked men) . As I was making a beeline for the lockersofsufficientsize some guy came and yelled at me. Apparently first you put shoes in the small locker, then you take the key and give it to the guy behind the counter, then he gives you another key, and you proceed to large lockers.

Please keep in mind this is a smallish Korean town, and this is a very Korean type of place (as in, there has never been a white guy in this building before kind of thing). Otherwise nothing I am about to tell you will seem magical or mysterious. Anyway, I collected my charming burnt orange oversized shorts and t-shirt and made my way to the locker. All I really wanted was to take a shower and then go up to the co-ed area, so I (still wearing shorts) could meet Jenny and escape the staring naked people (both pluses)  On my way to the shower/hottub room I was intercepted by another guy yelling guy.  "You, foreigner! Strip!" Or something like that. And now, if everyone wasn't already staring at me, the time had come. So I slank back to my locker in shame and phoned Kyle to commiserate. "Everyone's staring at me and the mean man just yelled at me to take pants off etc etc. " Anyways, after much waiting I finally just stared straight ahead and did what I had come to do. But very awkward let me tell you.

Anyway, after the naked part it was great, endless rooms of saunas from -10 to 65c where there's  like a 30sec time limit and it burns your lungs.  A room of hot rocks where you lie on these hot spa rocks (like gravel size) and it's quite comfortable. Common room (see picture) where old women are passed out every where. Cafe, internet, tv, sleeping rooms, we even had our own mini sleeping caves at this one in Seoul. I've been three times now, one good experience, one terrible experience and one with mixed reviews (the naked one I just told you about) Anyway, there you have it, JimJil Bang.

Personality Portait

I've been talking a lot about Personality types lately. I first did this test (with much skepticism) as part of my tesol training. It was a really enriching exercise which I thoroughly recommend.

I mentioned last time that it was unsual for me not to become tired after spending some much time with someone/someones. I've had some requests for a description of that personality, so anyway, for those who were asking, this is a detailed description of my personality. If you wanna do the test yourself, there are multiple places to do it (albiet a less complete version) online, but here are two:http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp  and http://www.personalitypathways.com/type_inventory.html

Anyway, my type is INFJ ....which is Introverted (opp. Extroverted)  iNtuition (opp. sensing) Feeling (opp. Thinking) Judging (opp. Perceiving). I was going to copy and past a wack of info...but you can just follow the link and I'll save us all the visual clutter.....My type is the rarest (1% of people) and clearly coolest as well. JK. The titles for this type are either 'protector, prophet, healer, or counsellor'
Anyway read away...

This just in....apparently Jesus and Gandhi were INFJ's....haha....who knew? http://www.personalitypage.com/INFJ_per.html

hmm....

Hmm....right. I feel like writing constant updates about me and Jenny is really lame. So I'm searching for other material. But really, that's the bulk of my time these days....

The weather....is officially warm....it was too warm today to play basketball in sweatpants. This is bad news. It's only March. My God have mercy on my soul come
summertime.

I went to Seoul this weekend without Jenny...intentionally....usually I can't handle being with someone all day all the time every day....but her if I was given the choice I think I would....it's weird...unual for me and for my personality type....
anyway, even though I didn't want to, I went off and left her in Wonju with her daughter and her friends for a picnic.

Not like it was a long time by any stretch....Friday night to Sunday dinner time....congratulations me...like 42 whole hours. But probably a healthy move. I ended up seeing her daughter anyway, and that was fun. Sadly, she said she never went to a park like this with her husband...and he didn't care to take pictures like this either...new experience....kinda sad no?

Speaking of her daughter...wow we have had a lot of interesting/difficult/awkward conversations this past week. About everything. About her daughter, about us, about yea, everything. Conversations that would be awkward with a Canadian girl....never mind a Korean one. But they all went really well....which shows me two things: a) her English is really good....and b) we communicate very well on a deep level..so yea.

cough cough....I'm back

Hey y'all
So....I think an update is in order...sorry for the delay...
I've been um....what's the word.....distracted. Yea. By my job. Right.

Anyways....life is good....I've been dating Jenny for a month now....and that month went by really fast. If I had to guess I'd say there was maybe three days this whole month we didn't meet up to study or eat or go to a movie or something.
My workout time and facebook time have suffered the most under the new regime. But that's ok.

And talk about bad timing to start dating someone....In the first 3 weeks I had valentines day and her birthday....and then bonus...next week is "white day" in Korea. Which is basically valentines day again, but only boys have to do the giving.

For her birthday we did a bunch of things....but you can see in the picture I made her dinner. Korea guys must be pretty unromantic, because making her dinner, buying her a birthday present, taking her to a nice restaurant were like mind blowingly nice....

Anyway, I mentioned Jenny's Mom.....so I'll tell that story and then go to the weight room.....um...so Korean mothers are special....you must remember that Jenny is 25 and has a daughter ok? But he Mom still phones her like everynight....when are you coming home? Are you still alive? That kinda thing. Wouldn't happen in Canada that's for sure. But then again, our families don't live all together like they do here.

But anyway....Jenny wanted to come to Seoul with Kyle, Amy, and I and her Mom was afraid cause there's a murderer in Seoul or something(?). As an aside...her Mom really pushed her to marry Captain Moron for the same reason...she was worried about her living alone in Seoul at the time. Anyhoo.....she told her Mom too bad, she was going to Seoul with us....and so then, as an exchange, I had to meet her. Haha. It was special.

A little nervous...cause she doesn't speak English at all. My Korean was ok....and Jenny translated the rest. She loved that I worked in a church, and that I had given Jenny an easy Korean translation/The Message bible...and she liked it so much, I had to get her one as well. So bonus points for me on that one.

If you wanna see photos from our weekend adventures go to http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1342537&l=6bc26&id=515047862
And today I am meeting all of her friends after work...and they don't speak English at all....so good luck to me. Yikes.
